The Shops at Wiregrass Wins Special Recognition Award
Wesley Chapel, Florida — The Shops at Wiregrass was honored with a Special Recognition Award on September 4th at Pasco Economic Development Council’s 27th Annual Appreciation Banquet. At its Industry of the Year awards held annually at Saddlebrook Resort in Wesley Chapel, Florida, Pasco EDC recognizes local companies that exhibit exemplary growth in technology, innovation, job creation, capital investment and community service.
“It is such an honor to be recognized by the PEDC for our continuous efforts and dedication to establish The Shops at Wiregrass as an effective and successful centerpiece to our local community as well as Pasco County.” Said Greg Lenners, General Manager at The Shops at Wiregrass.
Located in Wesley Chapel, The Shops of Wiregrass is a developer, property and retail management company under the organization of Forest City Enterprises. Because of their upscale style and commitment, the shops have become an essential part of Wesley Chapel and Pasco County. Its signature events and a great line of stores has made it a gathering point for the local communities in Tampa Bay.
“The Shops at Wiregrass have had a major impact on the growth of the Wesley Chapel area,” said Skip Miller, Senior Vice President of SunTrust Bank and Chair of the Pasco EDC Banquet Award Committee. “It has become a gathering place for Pasco County and the Tampa Bay region and has served as a catalyst for continued growth in the area.”
Some of these events include Rotary’s Freedom Festival, Symphony in Lights, a bi-monthly Fresh Market, and Car Shows which attract people from all over the region to Pasco. For youngsters, they have a kids club called the Wiregrass Ranchers. The company is involved in major charity events including the Cancer Society Making Strides walk and the Leukemia and Lymphoma society. The Shops have 40 direct employees but over 1,200 individuals are employed overall.
“No longer are people leaving the county for high-end shopping,” said John Hagen, Pasco EDC President/CEO. “In fact, people from Tampa and the surrounding counties are driving to Pasco to spend their money at The Shops at Wiregrass. It has become one of the region’s major attractions.”

About the Banquet
Each year, Pasco EDC solicits company nominations in the categories of Manufacturing, Service, Distribution, Technology and Nonprofits who are operating in Pasco County. The nominees are interviewed by members of the Pasco EDC Award Committee, and the winners are determined by using a specific grading scale.
The Pasco EDC Banquet Award Committee consists of business and community leaders from across Tampa Bay including: Skip Miller (SunTrust Bank), Kurt Beste (Patriot Bank), William Cloyd (First National Bank of Pasco), Duggan Cooley (United Way of Pasco County, Inc.), Jim Downey (BB & T), Laura Lay (Construction Services, Inc. of Tampa), Margie Pagano (TD Bank), Patty Sutton (Morton Plant North Bay Hospital), and David West (Tampa Bay Times).
